To get involved with NEED2 is to change lives and create a safer community; volunteering is one of the richest ways to make your mark. By volunteering with NEED2, you are joining a community of volunteers who believe passionately in the value of education and awareness in preventing deaths by suicide and supporting those who are struggling.

We have a fantastic, life-changing and rewarding volunteer program that is not only a significant benefit to college-level students in the human services fields, but to professionals and other community members who want to help us reach out to youth in our community and prevent deaths by suicide.

We need people who are willing and able to share their own feelings, give support to others and reach out for support when needed. NEED2 asks for a substantial commitment of time and energy. Training requires you to take some emotional risks and learn new communication skills.

There are three ways to donate your time. Read the descriptions below to figure out what would work best for you! Volunteer

As a volunteer, you are interested in holding a safe space for youth to talk about whatever they are facing. You need to be open-minded, and able to empathize with people whose experiences and emotions might be very different from your own. You want to help people by hearing and understanding, and you recognize that everyone has the right to make their own decisions.

Some requirements for volunteers:

  • Located in the Greater Victoria area
  • At least 17 years of age on the first day of training (if you are under 19 years of age we will also require permission from your parent or guardian)
  • Able to remain calm in highly-stressful situations
  • Willing to commit to an extensive 40-hour in-person training program
  • Able to give back by volunteering 140 hours supporting visitors online (over 12-16 months)
